I'm back

Sun May 31, 2009, 6:08 AM
Yeah, it's a long time since I've been here and I feel - no I'm certain - that I've changed. I just hope that deviantART has too, to some degree, because when I started here I soon got the feeling that it's a massive place devoted to anime fanart and everything else gets crushed underfoot.

Or maybe that really was just me, let's see. Not that I got anything against Manga/Anime and/or fanart! I love it, mangas and anime have always influenced me greatly (people always assume I try to draw manga nowadays - but they'd *know* if I would and I have huge influences from realistic art, too) but it seemed overbearing - what - 1-2 years ago?
(OMG, I just checked, the last thing I uploaded was almost 3,5 years ago!)

Thanks to all the favs on my work from back then, I guess.
I haven't been idle in those 3,5 years, I graduated from school, got turned down by the army, spend some time in Cardiff as an aupair, got surprisingly accepted into the army and am studying medicine now.
Also, I've been drawing a lot. Most of it unsuitable for DA so I didn't post it here and then I've been engaged in drawing my webcomic. Okay, I abandoned that for almost a year, too, but I'm back into the swing of it, somehow.
My newest deviation is a wallpaper and sort of concept art for it.
Drawing that comic has brought me forward a great deal in my artistic development. Granted, I used to be quite good at copying - manga, portraits, anything - and I'm still more of a face person - I can draw a couple of people quite well without reference, though real life - but practising in the comic and anatomy lectures have brought my anatomical knowledge a long way. Even though we're just looking at cells in anatomy right now, I'm learning a great deal because we also need to draw them and while I'm good at copying the structure and relative sizing, I like the colouring practice of it. It's easy to do on a computer, but getting to work with coloured pencils is as much fun.

Also, you know what's unnerving and scary?
